What about the temple in Phoenix

What no excitement about the new temple in Phoenix? There is also going to be one for us north valley people (well almost).

P.S. Holly when you're moved in, then Paige would appreciate music on the blog, because it is "boring" without.

Baptism Time

So who wants to come to Prescott in June? This year we're just hoping it's warm by then. Madison and June are being baptised in Prescott Valley on June 28th. I asked for the building at 10am, and so we'll just go with that for now. This is hopefully good news for those who would have traveled to both. Hopefully this will fit into a few summer plans, and by then Phoenix will be HOT enough it may be inviting. Oh yea, we will through some food at you afterwards.

Father & Sons season

This year we went to Pinal Mountain for the annual Father and Sons camp out. We went up Thursday evening as I had vacation time to burn up. So Friday we played and played and ate and played some more. We took 40 pounds of potatoes and came home with none. Justin and I love to toss the tubers with grand booms of exploding deodorant. In this picture you see Justin preparing for a shot. The small red cups in the background were being used as targets for other boys his age and their bb guns. He decided to join them. Potato guns are not too accurate, but the noise was quite amazing as was the distance of a good shot.

Here is Hunter having a great time in the small stream that goes through our campsite. He found mud, rocks, sticks, water and bugs. The perfect recipe for a fun time for any two year old. The only time he wanted me was for food and when he got too cold from the water and needed dried and cuddled for a few minutes. At lunch time he enjoyed all of the half empty sodas left on the tables. He found out that he liked Hawaiian punch, root beer, black cherry and fresca. He never knew what a smorgasbord could be had in a campground. That is why his shirt is off, it was rinsed in the stream and hung up to dry.

This gives you a better view of the soda stains on Hunter's face. Yes those are pine trees in the back ground. Pinal Mountain is just South of Globe and we were at Pioneer Pass which is on the East side of it. As we were pulling out of Globe the terrain is dessert. Four miles later you are in the trees. The road is narrow and steep. A great place to see this is on Google Earth. Brenna said to not let her sons come home with cuts, stitches or broken bones. Justin had to find the loophole so he found some poison oak. We washed him off and applied burn cream to it, that was all we had in the first-aid kit. It wasn't too bad for him. But each encounter with it gets a worse reaction. Live and learn as Papa says.

Food, Food, Food

With the family reunion only a couple of months away and the cost of gas going through the roof, it is time to think about food! That being the next big expense. Are we doing it as a group or is it every man for himself?! And if we are doing it as a group, who is doing what when?

And I have a healthy challenge for you all. Tina's diet because of the diabetes requires that she have between 30 and 60 grams of carbs a meal. Now a slice of bread is between 20 and 25 carbs. So two slices of toast for breakfast and there ain't no room for the cereal. So the challenge is to plan low carb meals, it will be healthier for you. This message will self destruct in five seconds.

Shh! Don't tell Sue that I (Ryan) posted this two weeks late:

April 19th, this is what we woke up to this morning, Mark is going to Mexico today, (Jerk!). The rest of us are going to stay here and enjoy the cool refreshing mountain cold air.

Steelhead Fishing in Idaho

Or was it river watching, only your hairdresser can tell. OK, how many of you are that old?

But it wasn't the best of years, fighting near record colds and low river flows because it was too cold for the snow to melt, the fish just didn't want to get out of bed in the morning and travel up river. The fishing was really, really good below Salmon but in the spring we go to Challis (that is another long story, you can ask later). The first night we were there it got down to 13 degrees. The heater would run for 5 minutes (hey, its a small trailer) and then shut off for 5 minutes all night long. And you are sleeping right next to the heater. I was up at 7 starting the generator because there was almost no juice left in the batteries.

And you may be asking, but there is no snow in the picture? Below Challis the river runs through a desert like area, think high cold desert. Go north from here and you run into pine trees as you travel up in the mountains. Keep going and you come to the Salmon river again as it loops back and makes another trip across the state. Think of it like going to from the South Rim to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and on to the North Rim. The bottom is desert. The top is pine trees. And here, the canyon is wide and about 1200 feet deep. As it cuts back across the state, it begins to rival the Grand Canyon. Upstream from the confluence of the Salmon and Snake rivers on the other side of the state, the Snake river is coming out of Hell's canyon which is deeper than the Grand Canyon because the Seven Devils Mountains on the Idaho side.

But I've wondered off point, if you go upstream from Challis back into the mountains instead of the desert, the snow was shoulder deep and it wasn't melting. Yes Nate, if you were to go fishing in Stanley this year, you would need to tramp through snow that was up to your shoulders. We drove almost to Stanley, actually to the old Sunbeam dam and I had to climb up snow that was up to my shoulder's to walk over and look at the dam.

Another Snowy Day in Idaho

Another day in paradise, even if it is May. And I have the pictures to prove it. Yes we woke up to snow on May 1st. And as you can tell in the second picture of the Idaho Falls temple, it is still snowing as I walked to work. Below thearrow in the background is the temple, which you can normally see very clearly from that point. Don't you all wish you were in paradise.
